Guido Cappellini of Italy won the Grand Prix of Qatar Formula One powerboat race held in Doha on Tuesday (November 27).

The 48 year-old driver from Como set the pace from the start, winning by 4.92 seconds from Thani Al Qamzi of the UAE, winner of the previous round held last Saturday (November 24) also in Doha. Taking a second consecutive third place was Swedish driver Pierre Lundin a further 3.69 seconds behind.

Australian David Trask suffered a huge crash, corkscrewing to a stop after hitting the fifth and final corner of the race circuit, but he escaped without serious injury.

Cappellini's win moved him 15 points clear of Al Qamzi in the championship standings, with Finland's Sami Selio six points further back after he only managed to finish seventh.

The penultimate round of the championships will be held in Abu Dhabi, UAE on December 7.
