Banned Substance Found in U.S.-Made Animal Feed (Jul, 2007)
Master CNN 2007/10/12 14:11Two U.S. companies have been caught using a banned chemical in animal feed. On Wednesday, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration said melamine was found in products made by Tembec under contract to another company Uniscope. Melamine is not approved for use in animal or human food and was the focus of an earlier probe into Chinese firms. In March, melamine traced back to China was linked to a number of deaths of cats and dogs forcing pro-ducers to recall millions of packs of pet food. The latest findings are likely to have a big impact because Beijing has borne the brunt of criticism for lax food and drug regulations.
